Stamping Product

This metal stamping product is a 0.4 mm aluminum lamp cover. Its low weight is useful, but the thin sheet can dent, wrinkle, or show tool marks with very little mishandling. Tooling and part handling should therefore protect the visible surface while holding the cover profile and edge geometry.

Surface Protection

A precision stamping product with a visible face needs a defined cosmetic standard before tool tryout begins. The drawing should identify the show surface, acceptable grain direction, edge class, and any zones hidden after assembly. Aluminum pickup on the die can create repeating scratches, so working surfaces need suitable polish, clearance, and lubrication. Protective film may be possible, but its thickness and behavior through forming must be tested rather than assumed. Inspection should use controlled lighting and agreed viewing distance for appearance items.

Forming and Dropping Off

An industrial stamping product of this gauge may use shallow drawing, flanging, piercing, and trimming. Blank restraint must be balanced: too little can wrinkle the cover, while too much can thin or split the edge. A formed stamping product should leave the die without being pinched or allowed to fall onto scrap. Smooth embossed-sheet chutes can support dropping off, and separators or soft contact points may be added where parts tend to nest together. Finished covers should be stacked in a way that avoids face-to-face rubbing.

Sample Approval

A pressed stamping product is normally checked for profile, flatness, hole position, trimming line, edge condition, tool marks, and assembly fit. The 2D drawing, 3D drawing, die technical standards, press specification, annual quantity, surface requirement, and packing method should be supplied for quotation. If the cover receives anodizing, painting, or another finish, the pre-treatment limits and masking areas should be reviewed before the tool is released.

Packaging and Traceability

Thin covers should be packed with separators or formed trays that support the profile rather than only the outer edge. Labels should identify revision, material lot, inspection status, and surface orientation. Retaining one approved visual sample near the inspection station gives operators a practical reference for minor marks that are difficult to describe with dimensions alone. The same packaging arrangement should be used for the approved sample shipment and later production lots.
